How the rating works

Each team's rating is the number of points Agatha expects it to beat an average FBS team by on a neutral field. It is built from every final score since 2004, FBS and FCS: 26,500 games.

Each game moves both teams by how far its final margin lands from what their ratings expected, once home field is allowed for. Newer games count more: every result moves a rating, and older ones fade. Each season starts from the one before, pulled part of the way back toward the average of the team's division.

Every FBS and FCS team is rated, and this page shows every FBS team. The rating itself is a neutral-field number: home field, rest and the starting quarterback are left out, and Agatha adds them when she predicts a game. The table is updated every Sunday morning, after the last Saturday game.
